I visited Perthshire in August 2006 after appearing at the Edinburgh Book Festival that year. This was a full three years before I had the idea for ALLIES & ASSASSINS but it’s no surprise that the stunning scenery and tranquillity of Loch Lomond, the Trossachs and surrounding area has remained with me. I stayed in a hotel there over my birthday and I remember waking up on my birthday morning to the view of the mountains and thinking, “life doesn’t get any better than this”. When I was writing Prince Jared’s hunting expedition in the Glen at the beginning of A&A, I very much had this landscape in mind. Now that I’ve written it, and pored through my photos again, I’m desperate to go back there!
